Chianti Classico Wine Expo, Italy

Where? Greve, Chianti, Italy.

When? 7-10 September 2017

For more than 2000 years wine has been produced in the beautiful Tuscan town of Greve in Chianti, Italy. The Chianti Classico Expo, now in it’s 47th year, celebrates both wine and the wonderful city of Greve, where it is held. A mixture of wine tastings, music and culture, as well as walking tours and guided tours of the regions castles and churches make this so much more than your average wine festival. Popular with both the local population as well as tourists and wine enthusiasts alike it is easy to see how this festival is about to celebrate it’s 47th annual year.

The Expo’s program is always very rich and varied and includes exhibitions of local artists, with the possibility of seeing local artisans at work, including basket makers, chair makers, painters and ceramists to name but a few. This allows visitors to experience a lot of the local areas traditions as well as the wine.

Aside from this, a key part of the expo is the large selection of music hosted at the event. Music for all ages and tastes, from disco parties to Jam sessions to Classical concerts, everybody  is catered for.

Beginning at 17:00 on Thursday 7th with the official ribbon cutting ceremony, music and wine tasting in the heart of the town, known as the Piazza Matteotti, you can expect a full timetable right the way through to Sunday evening, where the festival ends with Super Bingo followed by an Italian pop concert, there really is something for everyone.

When visiting the Expo, you simply buy a glass and holder from the official stall in the main square. The purchaser will also receive a ticket which allows them to go to the different stands and sample the different wines on offer.

The Chainti Expo aims to teach us that while Chianti is a wine it is also a territory and the aim of the organisers is to preserve and maintain the history of the area.

The Expo’s organisers say that what makes it different to any other festival is the open air setting which allows visitors to come in to direct contact with the territory and the atmosphere and with the enthusiasm and the pride that the wine growers carry in their hearts.

With many of the growers stating that one of the key reasons for constantly going back year after year is the growing number of international visitors to the expo, is it not time you were on of them?
